This was a project for the State Planning Office to evaluate the spatial differences between flood zones mapped using 2 foot interval contour data derived from LiDAR and the same areas mapped using the current Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) map modernization method. The goal was to quantify the differences between the two approaches, and help FEMA determine possible fiscal impacts of choosing one method over another. This would also help FEMA determine whether better results can be achieved by increasing map accuracy or by focusing more on engineering studies. |
